Lewes joins the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign

Living Wage LewesLiving Wage SUPPORTER

A number of businesses in Lewes have signed up to the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign and this week Lewes officially became part of our campaign.

Richard Wolfstrome, who designed our Brighton & Hove Living Wage logo, has adapted the logo for Lewes to use. He has also created a Living Wage ‘supporter’ logo, so if you support the Brighton Living Wage Campaign but don’t employ staff, you can display this logo on your website.

A small group of residents and businesses in Lewes have got together and will be launching a website soon. They will carry on with the great work they’ve been doing to encourage local businesses to pay employees a living wage.

Businesses based in Lewes that have signed up to the campaign:

Ashurst Organics
Baltica shop & café
Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors
Silverado Contemporary Jewellery
Somotion
Sussex Community Foundation
Sussex Police

Launched in 2012, the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign aims to encourage local businesses to voluntarily pay all employees a decent hourly rate. Set independently and updated annually, the Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK and is the amount that allows a person to live, rather than just survive. The current rate for the UK is £7.85 per hour. As the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign continues to grow it invigorates the serious debate that has been going on in the local and national media about salaries in the UK.

If you are a business, whether you are based in Brighton & Hove, Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings, please sign up to the campaign here. It makes sense for business; It makes sense for people.

Please email campaigns@businessinbrighton.org.uk if you would like us to send you the Brighton & Hove Living Wage supporter logo.
