Meet a Living Wage employer: JetSpace

Darly Willcox, Founder of JetSpace, has answered three quick questions to help us get to know them a little bit better.

What’s one challenge you’ve overcome recently?

Like many in the office space sector, we felt the shockwaves of COVID. Initially, it caused a fair bit of panic across the industry, but what’s emerged since is a reshaped demand. Fortunately, JetSpace is well-positioned for this new normal. Unlike providers locked into long-term leases or vast corporate towers, we offer flexible, well-priced suites that appeal to smaller, agile companies looking for something more private and permanent than your average coworking space whilst still being adaptable enough to scale up or down with their needs. Riding out that storm has meant staying nimble, listening to the needs of local businesses and keeping a strong sense of community within our buildings.

What do you hope to see next for your business – or for the wider Living Wage community?

At JetSpace, we’re not chasing expansion for the sake of it. The aim is simple: keep both buildings (Brighton City Centre and Shoreham Airport) running smoothly with great occupancy and happy tenants. That said, we’re always open to adapting spaces in creative ways. We’ve already got an impressively diverse mix – from a physiotherapist to a tattoo artist, and even a full-sized 737 flight simulator used for pilot training. It shows there’s real versatility in what a serviced office space can be.

As part of the Living Wage community, I believe in leading by example rather than preaching. We’d never tell our tenants how to run their businesses, but we’re proud to be recognised for doing the right thing when it comes to how we treat our own people.

What kind of impact have you seen since becoming a Living Wage Employer?

While JetSpace runs with a fairly lean team, being a Living Wage employer is a core part of our ethos. I’ve always believed it’s better to have a smaller team that’s well looked after than a bigger one that isn’t. Creating positive working conditions doesn’t just boost morale – it also reduces staff turnover, which ultimately pays dividends in the long term.

A big thank you to Daryl and the team at JetSpace for being a Living Wage employer!
