By Alison Scutt, owner and director of Home Instead Senior Care – Lewes District and Uckfield.
Home Instead Senior Care Lewes District and Uckfield are delighted to be a Living Wage employer. We are also equally delighted to hear that The Living Wage Foundation has announced the new UK Living Wage hourly rate of £9.30 per hour, an increase of 30p per hour.
Home Instead Senior Care Lewes District and Uckfield specialises in providing quality care for older people to stay independent at home with dignity and certainty. Our care – including Companionship, Home Help, Personal Care and Dementia Care – is the kind we would want for our own loved ones! Our ethos is simple – treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves.
I was interviewed by Living Wage Brighton and Hove back in September 2016, when the Home Instead Lewes District and Uckfield office had been open just three months. Then we had seven staff and now we have around 36, including Emma our new Recruitment Manager. More than three years into our journey, delivering our passion to change the face of ageing, paying the Living Wage is as important now as it was then, especially in the care sector.
As reported by The Living Wage Foundation, a full-time worker paid the Living Wage will receive more than £2,000 in additional wages compared to current Government minimum – equivalent to nine months of a typical family’s food and drink bill.
The work our CAREGivers do for the older people of our local community is inspirational and these everyday superheroes deserve to be paid the Living Wage. People who work in the care sector are friendly, kind, compassionate people. They enjoy spending time with other people and building friendly, but professional, relationships that really make a difference.
Respect is a key value for Home Instead Lewes District & Uckfield and that is reflected in our commitment to pay the Living Wage. When you have happy staff, you have happy clients and that is always my goal.
Our CAREGivers are the best of the best and, particularly in this time of uncertainty, we are happy to be able to pay them the new Living Wage and provide them with a boost to their financial security.
