Home Instead support Living Wage for vital care workers

Home Instead Brighton, Hove & Shoreham believe in the benefits of remaining at home as we age. As the saying goes, ‘home is where the heart is’ and there are huge advantages to maintaining our independence and in continuing to do the things we love. It’s their mission to help people live well, their way… safely and comfortably at home.

Liz Brackley, Director of Home Instead Brighton, Hove and Shoreham, started the award-winning company back in February 2015. Ever since, she and her team of compassionate and professional CAREGivers have been proudly providing support to older people in the local area. The dedicated, fully vetted and trained team at Home Instead Brighton, Hove & Shoreham provide high quality home care to aging adults at all stages of their care journey.

Home Instead Brighton, Hove & Shoreham joined the Living Wage Campaign because, as Liz explains: “we truly value the role of the CAREGiver. It’s so important to ensure that we are rewarding people for the vital jobs they are doing. Our key workers look after and support elderly members of the community. When I set up the business I had already decided to pay our CAREGivers at least the Living Wage, and in fact we pay rates above it!”

“The Living Wage provides a useful benchmark to ensure we are treating people as fairly as possible. We like to stay updated with what the real living wage is so we can continue to pay our employees what they deserve. We also ensure we look after the wellbeing of our CAREGivers and provide really great benefits and perks.”

“The Living Wage benefits our employees because it allows our team to live a decent life, not just survive. The sort of CAREGivers we are striving to recruit are motivated by their wish to make a difference and care for older people locally. Applicants do not need any previous care experience as full training and support is provided.”

“I am always keen to recognise the responsible and necessary work our CAREGivers deliver and part of that involves paying an appropriate and sustainable wage – we will always be a Living Wage Employer!”

“It is very hard for the care industry to raise its pay, as it is an undervalued part of the economy (often hairdressers and dog groomers earn significantly more than care workers) – however, as a private small business we aim to pay our team as fairly and well as we can, and have always paid above the Living Wage.”
