Meet a Living Wage employer: Midnight

Next up in our three quick questions series is Alex Hankinson, Joint Managing Director, from Midnight

Can you tell us a bit about your business and what you do?

Midnight is a digital PR agency. We’ve been proudly Brighton based for the last 30 years, representing businesses regionally and nationwide. We help our clients to build their reputation responsibly, through strategic consultancy, media relations, digital content and other channels.

What’s something you’re really proud of from the past year?

We’ve just published our Impact Report for 2024 and it’s been fantastic to summarise everything we’ve accomplished over the last year. Our top highlight has to be becoming a certified B Corp in September last year, which means we’ve joined a global movement of businesses committed to using their influence as a force for good. It gives us a framework for continual improvement. We’re also really pleased to have reduced our carbon emissions by 28.5% last year and supported our local environment through pro bono consultancy for the Sussex Wildlife Trust to drive awareness and support for the Sussex Kelp Recovery Project.

Why did you sign up to the Living Wage Campaign?

We’re a people business and it’s so important to us that our people earn a salary that meets the cost of living, not just the minimum. We feel very privileged to live and work in this beautiful, vibrant city – and we want our people to be able to enjoy the best that Brighton & Hove has to offer. We’ve worked hard to hone our benefits package and team training too, which has included financial coaching and financial literacy as well as healthcare cover and flexible wellbeing benefits, and more. Committing to the Living Wage campaign is one important part of our promise to our people, and we want to play our part in normalising paying a living wage to support the Brighton & Hove community. The more people that commit to it, the more other businesses will feel inspired to join too, for the benefit of the wider community.

A big thank you to Alex from Midnight for sharing these insights – and, of course, for being a Living Wage employer!
