Coming up next on our series, we’ve got Lynda Nutley, Social Value and Employee Relations Manager at NSL part of Marston Holdings
One of our biggest recent challenges has been addressing public misconceptions about Civil Enforcement Officers. Too often they’re seen in a negative light, when in reality, they are supporting the community every day, helping vulnerable people, keeping roads safe, and ensuring access for emergency services. We are engaging more with schools, businesses and community groups, which is already shifting the conversation and building greater public understanding and respect.
We’d love to see the Living Wage movement continue to grow, especially across sectors that don’t always receive public praise, like enforcement, security, and customer service. It’s vital that we recognise the value of this work and give people the dignity of fair pay. For our part, we’re continuing to champion diversity and inclusion at work, ensuring everyone feels valued and supported, regardless of background.
Becoming a Living Wage Employer has had a hugely positive impact on morale, recruitment, and retention. Colleagues feel more respected and motivated knowing their work is properly valued. It’s also helped us attract people who want to make a difference, especially through our partnerships with organisations like Spear and local schools. Paying the real Living Wage has become part of our wider commitment to social value, fairness, and supporting the community we serve.
A big thank you to Lynda from NSL for sharing these insights – and, of course, for being a Living Wage employer!
